Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am building a fence around my yard along with two (2) gates. I received a quote form your company and a competitor of yours. I noticed you use 14 gauge on your posts and the other company uses 16 gauge. What is the difference?

A: The unit of measure for the thickness of metal is referred to as Gauge. The thicker the metal the smaller the number, that is reverse of what you would think. We are quoting you a sturdier and longer lasting product than our competitor. We use:

14 Gauge on our Posts.
16 Gauge on our Pickets and Railings.
11 Gauge on our Entry Gates.

Here is the bottom line; our competitor is using less expensive material, which adversely affects the strength and life span of your fence and gate.

Q: I am getting ready to have a pool built and noticed there are regulations on fencing. Both cities and counties seem to have such regulations for safety to help protect children. Do you supply such fences and how do you address these regulations?

A: We comply with all the regulations governing pool fencing. The Code inspections leave no room for error and we guarantee our work will pass.
One requirement is that all pickets have a maximum of 4 inches between them. The inspector typically has a 4-inch ball that he must not be able to pass through. We put our pickets on 4 inch centers which gives us a 3 ½ inch opening. This ensures we will pass code. Putting them at a 4 inch gap may decrease the number of pickets used but does not guarantee it will pass the test.

Q: Is there an organization which the Ornamental Iron Industry uses for guidance on new processes and workmanship?

A: Yes, The organization is NOMMA which stands for National Ornamental & Miscellaneous Metals Association. (Insert link to website) JC Ornamental Iron is proud to be an active member since 1997.

Q: What are some of your more recent projects which you have supplied Ornamental Iron for that we may have seen?

A: We are proud of the work we have done at the Dr. Pepper / Seven Up Ballpark, home of the Frisco Rough Riders, and Pizza Hut Park, home of the FC Dallas Soccer team, in Frisco. We supplied the entry gates and iron fencing used at both parks. We have pictures of both on our website under Photo Gallery/Commercial.

Q: Do you build and install wood or chain link fencing?

A: No, we do not supply wood or chain link. We do work with other fence builders when they are incorporating iron panels or gates in the wood or chain link work.

Q: I have noticed some builders cut down a panel and use the fencing to make a gate. Do you do the same?

A: We make our gates from raw material along with our panels. This enables us to do things such as use 45 Degree angles in the corners for our welds versus just placing two pieces of metal together as some do when making gates out of panels (place drawing). This makes for a stronger and better looking gate.

Q: If I purchase a drive gate from you can you also supply the opener?

A: Yes, we use several quality manufactures' of openers with electric and/or solar power sources with our swing or slide gates. We can also take care of your automated entry requirements with keypads, loop detectors and such.
The Texas Department of Public Safety has required all companies, installing entry gate systems, to be licensed as of January 1st 2005. This license is acquired through the Texas Private Security board after completion of testing by the board. The board also looks into areas of the business such as financial responsibility, insurance accountability, and personnel background checks before a license is granted to help protect buyers. JC Ornamental Iron has achieved this certification as of February 28th 2005 under license #D12904.

Q: Why should I use JC Ornamental Iron versus buying pre-fabricated panels from the retail stores?

A: We custom make all our fences and gates. Our knowledgeable and courteous sales staff will come to your business or residence to start the process. We take accurate measurements and supply you with a layout on how we will fulfill your needs. Once we gain your approval, our shop takes over from there. We hand make all panels and gates to exact specifications to enable us to enhance the look of your residence or business. By using this process we can make a fence that meets your needs not trying to force pre-made panels into place which takes away from the look you desire.
